The New Fantastic Four Reboot

I don’t blame Fox for rebooting a series that was never that good in the first place.  With the popularity of superhero movies and Marvel owning the rights to most of them, it seems logical that you should cash in while the getting is good.  The only drawback is that nobody wanted a Fantastic Four movie in the first place let alone a reboot.  The creative wizards at Fox decided to set their Fantastic Four movie apart. ‘How?’ you ask?.  By making Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) black.  This gimmick will set it apart from the other abominable Fantastic Four movies, so as to get confused with this (most likely) abominable Fantastic Four movie.

Fans are up in arms over this change of race and certain plot points.  Instead of being siblings, the Human Torch and the Invisible Woman are now step siblings….or half-siblings….cousins?  Who knows?  No, wait, I think…

An Adorable Baby

I did this design, but I don’t know if it’s humorous or horror.  I think it’s a combination of both.  I could have gone really creepy with this and made it look more realistic with darker shadows.  However, If I did that he wouldn’t be the chubby bundle of blood-sucking cuteness he is.  Then I look at this design more closely and think to myself ‘Where do I come up with this stuff?’  I’m sure a psychiatrist could answer that one…..maybe.  For more shirts like this (well, not exactly like this) check out                                                           Etsy.com/shop/shirtsandgiggles77

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Brain Power.”

This is a question that has been covered in movies (Powder, Lucy) and comic books (Deathstroke).  Powder used the full power of his brain to heal, Lucy (Scarlett Johanssen) was insanely smart and could kick ass, and Deathstroke is an assassin.  So I would be an hyper-intelligent assassin with the ability to heal myself when wounded.  And use the 100% of my brain to solve a rubiks cube.

Marvel Superhero Movies: Here comes the D Squad

As a kid (and into adulthood), I loved comic books, Spider-Man in particular.  It was a pleasant escape from doing homework and getting good grades.  When that first wave of Marvel movies hit and they were doing all the A-list characters I was excited about it.  For the most part, the movies were at least respectable (aside from the abysmal Ang Lee’s Hulk).  Then Marvel continued to do second-tier characters like Iron Man, Thor.  They were well known enough to warrant a full-length film and were recognizable.  These movies of course made money and Marvel gained unstoppable momentum.

Once they had made movies of characters we knew well they started digging up from the dredges.  When I heard about a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie I was thinking ‘What? Didn’t they have a short run in the 90’s? Why?’  Was there a clamoring for this by the fans? Did people shake their fists to the sky and demand a Guardians of the Galaxy movie?  ‘We want our obscure super hero movie now!!’  I have heard nothing but rave reviews for the movie, but have no interest in seeing it as I don’t give a crap about any of the characters.

Then Marvel announced their phase 3 plan: here comes the money like rain.  The marketing is brilliant, the planning and making these films interconnect is equally brilliant.  Somehow, I can’t get geared up for a Doctor Strange movie, or a Black Panther movie.  The Inhumans?  Captain Marvel (didn’t that guy die like in 1983?).  It’s the who cares of who’s who. What bothers me is the fact that these third and fourth fiddle characters will most likely get better treatment than the first stringers (poor spidey).

Who would have thought we would have lived to see the day when an ‘Ant-Man’ movie would be pushed as a big blockbuster. Ant-man.  I read comics a good portion of my life and I barely know who he is.  Marvel (Disney) has become Hollywood.  Gone are the days of original ideas as Hollywood is completely tapped.  They have remade every horror movie that was ever worth the price of admission.  Now they are at Marvel’s feet begging for the next slew of superhero movies.  They don’t care if it’s a second reboot of the Spider-Man franchise or a reboot of the extremely lame Fantastic Four (Noooo!).

Personally, I am hoping for big screen movie version of Quasar and Epoch (if you don’t know who they are, don’t worry about it).  That rolls right off the tongue just like Batman and Robin.  In fact, Marvel is such a juggernaut right now (pun intended) that they could make up anything and it would go over.  They could release ‘Double Dildo Man’ and the studio head would ask ‘You think we could get a PG-13 on that?’

John Smoltz: A First Ballot Hall Of Famer and Here’s Why…..

John Smoltz was a consistent starting pitcher with a Cy Young award to his name.  He then made the successful transition to reliever (and was one of the best relievers in the game).  This switch was very reminiscent of Dennis Eckersley.  However, one distinct difference was John Smoltz is one of the greatest postseason pitchers of all-time (check the stats if you think otherwise).  All these combined elements make him a first ballot Hall of Famer.

As for some other pitchers who others think are on equal footing with Smoltz, they’re not. Schilling will never get in because he was never consistent (he had about five,six good seasons spread apart).  His totals don’t add up either.  And Mussina will never get in because he never did anything spectacular in his career (no awards, big playoff wins, a big win down the stretch).  Being from New York, watching Mussina pitch in the postseason was agony (aside from the ‘flip play’ game against Oakland).  He would either: give up a couple runs right off the bat or give up runs right after he was spotted a lead.  As Michael Kay so accurately put it, ‘He pitches good enough to lose’.  Amen.
